Nimbus Reader is made by Summer Cypress Ventures LLC (“we”, “us”). This policy explains what the Nimbus Reader app collects, why, and what you can do about it.
The short version: we collect what we need to run your account, sync your reading, handle subscriptions, and fix bugs. We do not sell your information, we do not show ads, and we do not share your information with data brokers.
Account information
Nimbus Reader requires an account. When you sign in with Apple, Google, Facebook, or an email and password, we receive your email address and, if you or the sign-in provider supply them, your name and the address of your profile picture. We also keep a record of which sign-in methods are connected to your account. If you use Sign in with Apple, we store the authorization token Apple issues so that we can revoke it when you delete your account. We use this information to identify your account and to contact you about it, for example about a support request, a security issue, or a change to these policies.
We may also email you from time to time about new features, offers, or to ask for feedback. Every email of that kind includes a way to unsubscribe, and where the law requires your consent first, we will ask for it. Unsubscribing does not affect messages we need to send about your account.
Your library and reading data
The books, articles, and text you import stay on your device. We do not upload the files themselves or their contents.
So that your library and your place in each book follow you between devices, the app syncs the following to our servers while you are signed in:
This data is tied to your account and is not visible to other users of the app.
Purchases
Subscriptions are sold and billed by Apple. We never see your payment card details. We receive your purchase history and subscription status, linked to your account ID, and keep a record of your subscription on our servers so the app can unlock what you have paid for. If you use a Pro Boost, the free short trial of Pro reading speed, we record when you used it and your device’s time zone so we can apply the weekly limit.
Crash, diagnostic, and usage data
When the app crashes or hits an error, a report is sent to us with technical details such as your device model, operating system version, and what the app was doing. To help us reproduce the problem, the report includes a short trail of recent actions in the app, such as signing in, importing a book, starting or ending a reading session, or opening a purchase screen. We also collect timing measurements from a sample of app sessions to find slow spots.
These reports are not tagged with your account or email address. Our crash reporting is configured not to collect personal details by default, and reports are filtered on your device to strip file names and book details before they are sent.
Technical information
Like most connected apps, our servers and service providers see your device’s IP address and basic device and app identifiers when the app communicates with them.
What we do not collect
We do not collect your precise location, your contacts, or your photos. The app does not use AI services to process your data.
When you add a web link or share a page to Nimbus Reader, the app downloads that page straight from the website to your device and converts it to readable text there. The page is not routed through our servers. The website you are importing from will see a normal request from your device, including its IP address, as it would if you opened the page in a browser.
Discover lists free books from Project Gutenberg. The app loads a copy of the catalog from our servers. When you search or browse beyond that copy, your search terms and selected filters (such as topic, language, and sort order) are sent to Gutendex, a public catalog service for Project Gutenberg. When you download a book, the file comes from Project Gutenberg or from our own copy of it.
Gutendex and Project Gutenberg do not receive your account information. They may see your device’s IP address as part of the connection.
We rely on a small number of companies to run the app. Each handles only the data needed for its job and has its own privacy policy:
None of these are used for advertising.
We do not sell your information. We share it only:
Delete your account. In the app, go to Settings and tap Delete Account. This removes your account and everything tied to it on our servers, including your synced library details, reading progress, sessions, and settings, and revokes Sign in with Apple if you used it. If you cannot get into the app, email us from the address on your account and we will handle it.
Clear your reading data. In Settings you can clear your statistics and reading progress, which also removes them from our servers.
Opt out of promotional email. Use the unsubscribe link in any promotional email, or email us and we will take you off the list.
Stop all collection. Deleting your account and uninstalling the app stops all further collection.
Ask us. You can email us to ask what information we hold about you, or to have it corrected or deleted. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under local privacy law, and we will honor them.
We keep your account and synced data for as long as your account exists. When you delete your account, we remove it and your synced reading data. Records of purchases may be kept by Apple and by our subscription provider where needed for billing, tax, or legal reasons. Crash and diagnostic reports are kept for a reasonable time while we use them to find and fix bugs, and are then deleted.
Nimbus Reader is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections between the app and our servers. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
We may update this policy as the app changes. When we do, we will post the new version on this page and update the effective date. If a change significantly affects how we handle your information, we will make a reasonable effort to let you know in the app or by email.
By using Nimbus Reader, you agree to the handling of your information as described in this policy.
